Our DNA is in online communication and collaboration across borders. Our teams have been working remotely for years already. That’s why we are coping well with the situation, despite working from offices in Corona hotspots like China, Northern Italy, Madrid, Munich, to name just a few.
Each year the HR and L&D community meet in Berlin to talk about learning transformation in HR and L&D. It's a day filled with learning, networking and peer exchange. This year, for the ninth annual Speexx Exchange conference, members of this dynamic community explored the topic of learning transformation, led by digital learning expert and Towards Maturity founder Laura Overton.
With remote work becoming standard practice, team leaders need to rethink their communication strategies. Virtual teams tend to be culturally diverse and studies show they have the advantage of being more innovative and able to easily move quickly out of their comfort zone, but bringing them together to collaborate can be challenging.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting a webinar on the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) with Diane Haines, VP Marketing of OpenSesame. We discussed practical applications of AI and machine learning in L&D and corporate training - like how you can work through data at your company for employee training and how to process it to gain knowledge for practical use so that you can improve your workforce.
In a bid to drive enhanced performance, companies are shifting from top-down hierarchies to flatter structures with cross-functional teams. According to research from Deloitte, “the shift from hierarchies to cross-functional teams is well underway. Our data shows that adopting team structures improves organizational performance for those that have made the journey; organizations that have not risk falling further behind.” More than half of respondents to Deloitte’s survey (53%) report a significant improvement in performance after switching to a team-based model of working.
A new term has arrived on the digital learning and HR scene – ‘’learning in the flow of life’’ - a concept coined by Deloitte and used to describe the ease by which a person might be able to gain new knowledge or skills during his or her quotidian routine. This is a recurring theme in the workplace as training and L&D has become a top priority for many modern organizations. But what does this new term, “learning in the flow of life,” really mean, and how can it help to achieve continuous learning on the job and throughout our daily lives?
Speexx recently enjoyed a Masterclass Webinar hosted by Cambridge Assessment English’s Global Product Strategy Manager, Ian Cawley. The topic was learner motivation – specifically, how organizations can better motivate their employees to learn new skills, such as foreign languages.
The fascination with Millennials is over. It’s time for organizations to turn their attention to a new generation entering the work force – Generation Z, also known as Gen Z. According to Monster, this cohort will account for 20% of the global workforce by 2020.
